Donetsk communists honor victims of fascist occupation

By Red Carnation

September 8: The pit of mine No. 4/4 bis in the Kalininsky district of Donetsk became the site of mass executions of civilians by the German occupation authorities during the Great Patriotic War. This is the second largest burial place for victims of fascism after Babi Yar. The bodies of 75,000-100,000 people were dumped here — Soviet prisoners of war, underground organizers, Jews, and the rebellious civilian population.

The memorial complex at the mine was created in 1983. We, the communists of Donetsk, visited the site and laid flowers to honor the memory of all those who died at the hands of the Nazi invaders.
“Here lie the ashes of the brutally tortured civilians, members of the Donetsk underground, POW soldiers and officers thrown into the mine pit No. 4/4.
1941-1943
ETERNAL GLORY …
EVERLASTING MEMORY…
ETERNAL PEACE…”
