Workers World received this solidarity statement from the Lugansk Communists in the embattled Donbass region of eastern Europe. Three years ago, a U.S.-backed coup in Ukraine brought to power a far-right government, including neo-Nazis like those who carried out attacks and acts of terrorism in Charlottesville, Va., on Aug. 12. Fascists militia groups embedded with the Ukrainian army have carried out numerous acts of terrorism against the mainly Russian-speaking residents of the Donbass region, which broke away in May 2014 to form the independent Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
Statement in support of the struggle of anti-fascists, communists and leftists of the U.S. against the growing neo-fascist threat in America
Comrades!
In recent days, our attention has been focused on the events in Charlottesville. Massive clashes, human victims, unjust reaction of the authorities — this constitutes the attempt of the right-wing forces to get revenge.
We know that the left and anti-fascist forces in the United States have been fighting for many years for the equality of rights of all people, regardless of nationality and skin color. And in this struggle we are one.
We, the Communists of the Lugansk People’s Republic, the anti-fascists of Ukraine, the victims of the political repression of the Ukrainian fascist regime, know what lies behind the values of the right-wing forces – interethnic strife, war, bloodshed, misanthropy, trampling of all civil rights and freedoms.
But we also know that there will always be people who can stop the right-wing nationalists — in Europe, Ukraine or the U.S. Anti-fascists around the world stand for the values of humanism — the values of the future. And that’s why the truth will always be on our side. And so we will win!
We mourn Heather Heyer together with you and her family. We wish a speedy recovery of health to all those injured in the clashes.
We express solidarity to the anti-fascists of the United States. We know that no terrorist attacks will intimidate you and silence you. Together, our voices and our resolute actions can make the world a better and more just one.
Fascism shall not pass!
