New repression in Ukraine: Journalist Vasily Muravitsky arrested

Journalist Vasily Muravitsky, age 32, was arrested in Zhytomyr, Ukraine.

Previously, he was editor-in-chief of Novaya Volna (New Wave newspaper) – a nationwide communist weekly. After the passage of de-communization laws, Muravitsky became a reporter for Russian media outlets.

He is accused by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) of anti-governmental activity. According to press reports, he faces 15 years in prison.

Sergei Kirichuk, a founding member of the banned Ukrainian communist organization Borotba, worked with Novanya Volna from 2001.
