On Sunday, April 2, at 16:00 in the musical-literary salon of the Donetsk Republican Library for Youth (3 Shevchenko Blvd.), the “Aurora” women’s educational club will host a screening of the film Champion of Freedom [Libertarias] (dir. Vicente Aranda, 1996)
On July 19, 1936, revolution broke out in Spain. In a small town, a monastery was destroyed by the revolutionaries of Barcelona. Maria, a nun from the destroyed monastery, finds refuge in a brothel, where activists from the Organization of Free Women soon came with a mission to liberate the prostitutes. Some time later, falling under the influence of Pilar, Maria joins the organization and becomes involved in the armed struggle along with the other activists, who prefer to die fighting shoulder to shoulder with men, rather than live serving them.
