Women’s march in Moldova says ‘No means no!’

In Chisinau, there was a kind of International Women’s Day march on March 8. People marched through the capital’s Stefan cel Mare Avenue and chanted “no means no!”

The event was part of the Feminist Festival. According to participants, they intend to pass the word to their fellow citizens that there is no place for discrimination and violence in a healthy society, writes Jurnal.md.

People met at 12.00 at the intersection of Ismail and Stefan cel Mare Avenue and marched to the Opera and Ballet Theater Square.

Participants said a firm “no to violence!”

Passersby welcomed the initiative of the march organizers, and declared that Moldovan society should be more united in the struggle against violence.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, in 2016 618 crimes of sexual assault were committed. Their number increased by approximately 2 percent compared to 2015.
