Lugansk communists participate in meeting of World Federation of Democratic Youth

Lugansk Communists, representatives of the Union of Left Forces and the Komsomol, took part in the meeting of the General Council of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, held in Moscow on February 4-8, 2016.

Lugansk comrades participated in the meetings of the Council on the organization of the Federation’s work, participated in the European regional WFDY working group, and formally expressed the desire of the communist youth organization of Donbass to join the WFDY.

According to Maxim Chalenko, head of the Union of Left Forces, at the meetings of the Council, as well as in the working groups, Lugansk Communists successfully enlisted the support of many youth organizations on the issue of the Komsomol of Donbass joining the WFDY.

“In the course of discussions with WFDY Secretary-General Nicholas Papadimitriou, we were invited to assemble the required documents and send them to the General Council of the WFDY, the President, and the Vice President of the European group for their consideration of the application according to the Charter of the WFDY.

“In the course of personal meetings, we were able to convey to the world youth leaders information about what is really happening in Donbass, where civilians are faced with military aggression and outright genocide. We provided clear evidence of the methods used by the Ukrainian neo-fascists in Donbass. Also, the WFDY General Council adopted a statement against the political repression of the Ukrainian Communists and in support of the Komsomol of Ukraine.

“Leaders of world youth organizations demonstrated an understanding of what’s going on today in Ukraine, where there is blatant destruction of supporters of the left, of communist ideology. The methods actually used by the Ukrainian authorities have nothing to do with Ukrainian media propaganda, replicated in Europe and worldwide, about ‘democracy’ and ‘freedom of speech,’ explained Chalenko.

The outcome of the meeting of the General Council was its decision to hold the 2017 World Festival of Youth and Students in the Russian city of Sochi.

STATEMENT

The Leninist Communist Youth League (LKSM) of Lugansk, as heir to the traditions of Klim Voroshilov, Artem and Alexander Parkhomenko, brings together young people who live and work on the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), actively struggling against the fascist regime in Ukraine. Our goal is the protection of young workers and students, the struggle for the transition to socialism.

Our public organization was created in 2014, after pro-fascist forces came to power in Ukraine, and part of the South-East of Ukraine, namely the Lugansk and Donetsk regions, expressed distrust of the new Ukrainian government. As a result of a referendum, the People’s Republics were created on the territory of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions, with their own governments and laws. We, the Komsomol youth, never for a moment ceasing our activities, decided to establish a LKSM organization for the continuation of work in the territory of the People’s Republic of Lugansk. Today we take an active part in all the events and activities that are carried out by Communists on the territory of the LPR.

Understanding the power of solidarity and the desire to unite all left-wing organizations around the world in the struggle against imperialism and for the building of a just and equitable world, for the protection of the social and economic interests of young people, as well as taking into account the fact that members of the Komsomol of the Lugank region have always been delegates at all international youth festivals held by the WFDY, please take our organization into the World Federation of Democratic Youth.
