“Renato was released. That’s good. We all tried and endeavored to make it happen. But there are other political prisoners in jail. Now we need to do everything possible so that they are released!” wrote MP Igor Dodon on social media.
The leader of Our Party, Balti Mayor Renato Usatii, was released from custody on Sunday, October 25. The politician was jailed on Friday, October 23, after having been detained at the exit of the Chisinau International Airport.
Prosecutors accused Usatii of violating the secrecy of correspondence following the publication of discussions between former Prime Minister Vladimir Filat and Orhei Mayor and millionaire Ilan Shor, concerning the case of the theft of a billion dollars from the banking sector.
Recall that a number of members and activists of the opposition party Red Bloc, headed by former deputy and honorary member of PACE Grigory Petrenko, have been under arrest since September 6, following protests against the ruling oligarchic regime.
