Leningrad: Action in solidarity with Kazakhstan workers

We remember, struggle, and express our solidarity

In St. Petersburg / Leningrad, the independence day of bourgeois Kazakhstan is traditionally marked by a picket of memory and protest. On December 16, at the building of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan, communists from the Russian United Labor Front (ROT-FRONT), United Communist Party (OKP), and the Marxist Trend held a rally in memory of the striking oil workers shot down in Zhanaozen in 2011 and in support of the Shakhtinsk mine workers who are fighting today.

The activists held signs explaining what is happening in the republic and chanted: “We are in solidarity with the workers of Kazakhstan,” “Those guilty in the shooting must answer,” “We will not forget — we will not forgive!”, and “Nazarbayev’s gang — to the workers’ court of justice!”

It is noteworthy that this year, on the sixth anniversary of the execution of the strikers in Zhanaozen, a powerful strike took place in the city of Shakhtinsk, Karaganda region, where several mines stopped work. Before us is a really vivid example of the fact that the workers’ cause is not hopeless, that the struggle continues.
