On February 24, one of the musical centers of Istanbul in the district of Okmeydani hosted an international concert in support of political prisoners Bahar Kurt and Ozgur Gultekin, musicians from Grup Yorum, arrested by Turkish security services last October.
The concert was attended by local stars and musicians from the Middle East and Europe.Union Borotba (Struggle) was represented to our creatively active comrade, singer Maria Simikchi. Before performing Russian anti-fascist songs, Maria told the audience about the situation in Ukraine, the growth of far-right sentiment and the massacre on May 2, 2014, in Odessa. Maria also reported to Turkish comrades on the recent arrest of Alexander Kushnarev — father of antifascist Gennady Kushnarev, slain on May 2 — and called for the unification of all forces fighting against fascism. In this way more and more people around the world learn about the lawlessness in Ukraine.
Revolutionary creativity is of paramount importance in the socialist movement, but in the post-Soviet space there are significant problems with this issue for the left that need to be eliminated as soon as possible.
