Moldova: Red Bloc condemns political repression against ‘Our Party’ activist Felix Grincu

Statement of the political party “Our Home is Moldova” (Red Bloc) condemning political repression against “Our Party” activist Felix Grincu

November 18: The political party “Our Home is Moldova” (Red Bloc) categorically condemns the arrests of politicians, activists and other public figures considered undesirable by the regime dominated by oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc. We consider the arrest of “Our Party” activist Felix Grincu as yet another proof that there is a dictatorial regime in Moldova, intimidating Moldovan society and suppressing civil liberties.

Direct regime control over the courts and law enforcement agencies has brought our country to the point that the phenomenon of “political prisoners” has appeared, for which Moldova has repeatedly received international condemnation. By order of Plahotniuc, an arrest warrant was issued against the leader of “Our Party” Renato Usatîi [currently in exile in Moscow]. The oligarch deployed the resources of his media holdings to persecute lawyer Ana Ursachi and her family. The trial continues against the former political prisoners of the “Petrenko Group,” who spent six months in jail and two months under house arrest, and continue to have their civil rights and freedoms restricted under judicial control. Harassment continues against activists of the “DA Platform” detained after anti-oligarchic protests in April.

We call on Plahotniuc to carefully study the history of dictatorships. All dictators meet unenviable and ignominious ends. At this time 43 years ago in Greece, the fall of one of the last dictatorships in Europe began — the regime of the “black colonels.” Today Moldova has its own “Papadopoulos”! We are confident that the day is not far off when the mafia that seized power in our country will be defeated.

Only through universal solidarity of all this opposition forces, through mobilization, popular disobedience and struggle, can we defeat the criminal regime of Plahotniuc!

Freedom to political prisoners! No to Plahotniuc’s repression!
