Riot police attack anti-austerity protesters in Chișinău, Moldova

September 6: The police provoked a scuffle in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, in which several people were hospitalized.

When hundreds of protesters came to the building of the Prosecutor General’s Office to demand the resignation of public prosecutor Cornelia Gurin, puppet of the oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, they were met by several dozen police and special forces. In response to the protesters’ attempt to set up an encampment at the foot of the building, law enforcement officers used force against the protesters. 

As a result of the provoked scuffle, several elderly protesters were hospitalized. In addition, several activists were arrested. 

On Sunday, anti-government protests swept the capital. Around 100,000 citizens gathered in the area of ​​the Grand National Assembly. In addition, another anti-government rally at the Academy of Sciences drew hundreds of people.
