June 16: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) Alexander Kofman explained the consequences of a possible worsening of relations between Ukraine and Transnistria.
“The DNR will go on the offensive in the event of a Ukrainian attack on Transnistria. In the event of aggravation of the situation in Transnistria, if there is renewed fighting, the army of the DNR will be ready to support the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR).
“We believe, in light of recent developments, that such aggravation is inevitable. They are our brothers, and, of course, in the event of an attack on them, we have to help. I’m sure we can do it. Moreover, unfortunately, I’m sure it will happen. History shows that where [former Georgian President and current Odessa Governor] Saakashvili is assigned, a Battle of Tskhinvali [South Ossetia] cannot be avoided.
“The blockade of Transnistria, which began in May when Moldova and Ukraine stopped access to Russian goods and peacekeepers through their territory, will result in the opening of a second front, which will ruin Ukraine,” said the head of the Foreign Ministry.
