May 29: Political prisoners Mikhail Amerberg and Pavel Grygorchuk were released under judicial control.
During the meeting of the Appeals Chamber in the case of the political prisoners, the judge sided with the defense, changing the measure of restraint against Grygorchuk and Amerberg from house arrest to judicial control.
Grygorchuk and Amerberg were among the first victims of political terror organized by the authorities against the opposition before last year’s parliamentary elections. They were arrested on criminal charges fabricated by prosecutors.
[Translator’s note: Grygorchuk and Amerberg are currently candidates in the Chișinău city council elections, representing the new Red Bloc party, successor to “Our Home is Moldova.”]
