February 2: Alexander Zakharchenko, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR), answered reporters’ questions about the voluntary military mobilization.
“The enemy is increasing the size of its army considerably; we also need to equalize the situation. Soon a recruitment drive for the DNR will be announced. While there is time, new units should learn in our centers, undergo military training, conduct drills, and I think by the spring we will reach parity in the size of the DNR army,” said Alexander Zakharchenko.
According to him, the creation of five additional brigades is planned — a reserve that can withstand any attack by the enemy and, if successful, go on the counter-offensive.
“We want to increase the number of the DNR and Lugansk People’s Republic (LC) armies up to 100,000 troops, primarily with volunteers. If we do this, conscription will not be necessary. Already there are those wishing to join the ranks of the DNR army. During the fighting in Uglegorsk, locals joined the army of the DNR on a voluntary basis,” said the head of the Republic.
