After 5 months, Moldovan political prisoners transferred to house arrest

Chișinău, April 14: After five months detention, political prisoners Pavel Grygorchuk and Mikhail Amerberg will be transferred to house arrest.

At its meeting of April 14, the court considered a motion by the defense to change the measure of restraint for political prisoners Pavel Grygorchuk and Michael Amerberg. As a result, the court sided with lawyer Roman Aronov: tomorrow the political prisoners will be transferred to house arrest.

“We have house arrest starting tomorrow. We will still spend tonight in penitentiary number 13. Tomorrow Pasha will be transferred to house arrest at 12:20, and I’m up at 3:30,” said Amerberg.

Antifascist activists Michael Amerberg and Paul Grygorchuk were among the first victims of political terror deployed against the opposition by the authorities on the eve of parliamentary elections [in November 2014]. They were arrested on criminal charges fabricated by prosecutors.

Besides Grygorchuk and Amerberg, other victims of political repression were Motherland Party activists Nikolai Tsipovich and Cornel Moraru.
