Union Borotba (Struggle) expresses its solidarity with the Spanish antifascist fighters who joined the popular uprising in the Donbass and participated in the resistance to the reactionary regime in Kiev.
We also call on the Spanish authorities to stop the persecution of antifascists on trumped-up charges of violating the country’s neutrality. Spain is a member of the European Union, which provides financial, military and other assistance to the Kiev ultra-right regime that unleashed a criminal war against the people of Donbass. Dozens of neo-Nazis from EU countries went as volunteers and fought on the side of the Kiev regime. For this reason the EU cannot be regarded as neutral in the civil war in Ukraine — from its moral, propagandistic and diplomatic support for the coup in February 2014, down to the direct supply of arms to the Kiev regime.
The example of the Spanish antifascists, like many other fighters who supported the popular uprising in the Donbass, shows once again that the civil war in Ukraine today is not a “national” struggle between Ukrainians and Russian, nor a geopolitical clash between the West and Russia. While these factors are present in today’s struggle, its main content is the antifascist and anti-oligarchic movement of the masses who do not agree with the establishment of the ultra-right, imperialist-backed regime. And this fight is not limited to the Donbass — it goes in Kharkov and Odessa, Kiev and Dnepropetrovsk, Russia and Spain, Germany and Greece.
Fascism will be defeated. Ukraine will be free and socialist!
